Dr. Kirby Stafford will present an illustrated virtual talk on Tuesday, July 27 at 1 p.m. for the Essex Library on tick-borne diseases and tick-bite prevention. His talk will also cover the emergence and surveillance of new tick species in Connecticut, basic tick biology, and highlight his research on various practical methods and issues for tick control.
Dr. Kirby C. Stafford is Chief Scientist (Head) of the Department of Entomology and State Entomologist at The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station research area is the ecology and control of the blacklegged tick, Ixodes scapularis, and more recently, the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum. Dr. Stafford has authored or co-authored 86 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, review chapters on tick management in two books, produced a Tick Management Handbook, and serves on regional and national tick-related committees.
