Its almost never use. And the reason it is used to so you cant sue them. Whenever this plea came into discussion, the prosecutors first question was, will they sign a waiver giving up all rights to sue the state of arkansas . People ask, and i have any reservations, or dont have to fight with myself to come to the decision to accept that . You just know, because i was dying. I was dying very quickly. There were times when i was so sick i literally didnt think i was going to make it to the next morning. So i knew if i didnt take that deal i was going to die. They couldve easily stretched his case out another five to 10 years. They could have constantly asked for extensions. I would have died. Has anybody from the state of arkansas or the county in which you were prosecuted, anybody come close to saying to you, we know you didnt do it, and by the way, we are really sorry we did this to you for 18 years . Echols recalls his arrest, incarceration and eventual release for the murder of three 8yearold boys in 1993. Mr. Echols and two other men, jesse and Jason Baldwin dubbed the west memphis three, spent 17 years in prison. Mr. Echols discusses the case and his time spent on death row at town hall seattle. And in this class, were going to look at buddhism, which believe me, folks well be asking buddhism to help us understand the religious experience. But its an even more fascinating set of answers to profound life questions. Maybe one of the most perplexing for the eastern mind is buddhism, and were going to be going through that today. But to make that all important segue between hinduism and buddhism, which of course the segue in history is the buddha himself who makes that connection, one of our top students here, janet, was not here last week because she was in a hindu retreat, and i thought id ask janet i know you were there. Id like to, first of all, get you to do the chant you learned, and tell us a little bit, then, about your retreat.
