Hearings for two Laredo capital murder cases to take place this week

A murder case and two capital murder cases are scheduled to appear before Webb County district court judges this week.
On Tuesday, Rene Salas, 36, is scheduled for a hearing on the status of jury selection in the 406th District Court, according to court records.
Salas is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, one count of assault on a family member, one count of injury to a child/elderly with intent of bodily injury and one count of attempt to commit capital murder of a peace officer.

David Romeo Garza Jr., 23, is accused of fatally shooting Laredo Heat Coach Jose Eduardo Salinas Jr., 22, in the face back in 2018.
According to online court records, Garza’s attorney, Marcel Notzon, drafted a plea agreement that he will present to the Webb County District Attorney’s Office.
Last July, a status hearing occurred via Zoom where Garza was present via audio because he was having trouble connecting. He was home with COVID-19, according to the hearing notes.
The case unfolded just shy of 2 a.m. on March 6, 2018 at a gathering in the 1100 block of Topaz Trail in the Tiara De San Isidro Subdivision.

Two murder cases have hearings scheduled in two different Webb County courts on Monday morning. The defendants are David Romeo Garza Jr. and Adolfo Villalobos, whose cases date back to 2018 and 2014, respectively.
David Romeo Garza Jr., 23, is accused of fatally shooting Laredo Heat Coach Jose Eduardo Salinas Jr., 22, in the face back in 2018. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In January, 341st District Court Judge Beckie Palomo scheduled a plea hearing for this morning. During a July status hearing that occurred via Zoom, Garza was home with COVID-19, according to the hearing notes.
