Never too early : As High Desert residents honor the fallen, some parents use Memorial Day to teach sacrifice

Coast Guard veteran Tyrone Brown spent part of his Memorial Day at his father’s grave in Victorville, where he wiped away tears as he planted an American flag and other patriotic adornments.
“He was a good man, and we were very close,” Brown, 63, said of his father, World War II Navy veteran Fred A. Brown, who was laid to rest in 2004 at Victor Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary on Eleventh Street.
Despite the park canceling this year’s annual Memorial Day ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brown and a host of others visited the cemetery to pay their respects to loved ones who served in the military.
For the second year in a row, Memorial Day events in the High Desert will be hampered by COVID-19 restrictions that have forced the cancellation of some events.

35th district Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham and nine other legislators want answers from the state regarding vaccine distributions.
A bi-partisan group of state legislators sent a letter to the California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly asking for clarification on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution protocols calling the state s process a black box .
Legislators want to get clarification on the state department s decision making when it comes to vaccine allocation per county. A lack of communication and transparency from the administration has resulted in mass confusion by both the general public and our local public health officers, the letter says in part.

–This week, Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham (R-San Luis Obispo) and a bipartisan group of legislators representing rural districts sent a letter to the California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly requesting information about the state’s vaccine distribution protocols.
“Residents in rural counties like the ones we represent are just important as those in Los Angeles,” said Cunningham. “While our counties are being told that they will be receiving miniscule amounts of COVID-19 vaccines for their residents, the administration has propped up at least four large vaccine distribution sites in major population areas and has yet to explain where those doses are coming from.”
