Amid lingering lockdowns, fears of COVID variants and economic scarring, a brighter outlook is gaining force.
The Bank of Canada told the country yesterday that “the economy is proving to be more resilient than anticipated to the second wave of the virus.”
And economists across the board have been raising their growth forecasts. According to Bloomberg, the latest estimates put Canada’s growth this year at 5.4%, up from the Bank of Canada’s 4% forecast in January.
“If data continue to provide upside surprises and the vaccine rollout accelerates, the Bank may be left with little choice but to exit easy monetary policy sooner rather than later,” TD senior economist Sri Thanabalasingam said yesterday.
