The case briefly came before the Durban Regional Court on Monday, when it was postponed for more suspects to be nabbed.
“The matter was postponed to allow five other suspects to be arrested and joined in the matter,” said spokeswoman for the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Investigating Directorate Sindisiwe Twala.
All nine are expected to appear together in May.
Panday is alleged to have scored big from, amongst other deals, alleged dodgy tenders to provide local accommodation for police in the lead up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup, with Ngobeni and the other two current co-accused – former police officers Navin Madhoe and Aswin Narainpersad – alleged
According to the indictment, five more people have been implicated and charged in the matter, including Panday s mother, wife and sister.
Arvenda Panday, 69 (Thoshan s mother), Privisha Panday, 45 (Thoshan s wife), Seevesh Ishwarkumar, 44 (Thoshan s brother in-law), Kaja Ishwarkumar, 37 (Thoshan s sister) and Tasleem Rahimna, 35 (Thoshan s personal assistant) face a raft of charges related to alleged corruption and fraud surrounding 2010 Fifa World Cup police tenders.

Thoshan Panday’s mother, Arvenda Panday, 69, his wife Privisha Panday, (née Summerjeeth), 45, his brother-in-law Seevesh Maharaj Ishwarkumar, Panday’s sister and wife to Seevesh, Kajal Ishwarkumar, 37 and Thoshan’s then assistant Tasleem Rahimna, 35, are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 7 May to be officially served with the state’s over 200-page indictment and have their names added to the court roll.
From there, the matter is expected be transferred to the Durban High Court, where all five of the additional accused are expected to stand trial alongside those initially charged in the matter: former police colonel Navin Madhoe, 51, Madhoe’s then subordinate, former captain Ashwin Narainpershad, 52, retired KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni, 52, and 48-year-old Thoshan Panday.
