Montrose Playhouse backers have received a special preview of the new town cinema as the multi-million pound project enters a crucial phase.
The end of an eight-year journey is in sight for the team behind the ambitious scheme to convert the town’s former swimming pool into a three-screen state of the art cinema and community hub.
Inside one of the screens as the Playhouse project takes shape.
Sights are now firmly focused on an October opening and the latest James Bond blockbuster as its premiere showing.

Courier Business Briefing: Enhancing people skills to make workers feel valued

A Courier Business Briefing on the topic of ‘managing people in a global pandemic’ was held with three expert speakers yesterday.
Craig Nicol, managing partner of Thorntons, started proceedings by describing how the company adapted to the pandemic as the courts and its estate agency business closed in the first lockdown.
Then Kathryn Hill, an employment engagement adviser for Skills Development Scotland (SDS), showcased programmes that have helped firms in Tayside and Fife to continue to grow.
Finally, Cami Alexander, a development coach at DC Thomson, shared tips for change, wellbeing and development.
Thorntons: Growth despite lockdown closures of courts and estate agents

Law firm Thorntons managed to grow its sales last year despite Covid-19 disruption.
Hundreds of workers went on furlough as courts closed and the property market was shut down during the first lockdown.
Despite this, the firm still managed to increase its sales by 2.6% for the year ending May 31.

Newly filed accounts show that Dundee-headquartered Thorntons’ turnover increased to £30.5 million from £29.8m in 2019.
Profit before members’ remuneration and profit shares rose to £8m against £7.1m the previous year.
