FIVE years ago this week, police were hunting a knife attacker after a man in his 30s died following a savage street assault. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and stomach after being attacked in broad daylight in the village of Kelloe, near Durham City. Paramedics took the injured man to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he died a short time later. Officers were called to Front Street shortly before 2pm, after reports that a local man had been attacked. They swamped the former pit village and told residents to stay indoors as they looked for the suspect.
