CEO of VINLEC, Thornley Myers has provided an update on the current billing situation

NBC SVG Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Electricity Services VINLEC Thornley Myers, says a suspension of the bill for persons who were not directly impacted by the volcanic eruption is not in their best interest. Mr. Myers made the statement while speaking at a live press conference hosted by VINLEC this morning. The VINLEC CEO said a suspension of the bill now will result in a higher electricity bill when the meter is eventually being read. Mr. Myers said if a consumer detects a higher bill for the month of April, such persons should pay their normal amount to remain in good standing and to avoid accumulating a larger electricity bill.

VINLEC employee retires after 45 years of service Edwin Gibson has retired after 45 years of service at VINLEC Social Share The longest serving employee at the nation’s electric utility Company, VINLEC, Edwin Gibson has retired after 45 years of service. Gibson spent his last day on the job on Friday, February 26, 2021. He started working at VINLEC on July 6, 1976 as a Trainee Fitter. After several years on the job, he was promoted to the position of Senior Fitter in 1982. On occasions, he worked as Project Supervisor for half-life overhauls on engines at the Company’s Power Stations. He also acted in the capacity of Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor. In September 2006, Gibson was promoted to Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, a position he held up to the end of his tenure with the Company.

First ‘non-travellers’ COVID cases As of December 28, one person, of 24 active cases of COVID-19, was being treated at the Argyle Isolation Centre. The Health Services Subcommittee advised, into the early hours of Tuesday evening, that two (new) positive cases of COVID-19, with no history of travel, were confirmed over the last 24 hours. Health Officials assured that extensive contact tracing and testing have been initiated. All possible contacts have been quarantined This brings the number of recorded cases to 115, though this is recorded here without confirmation by the appropriate health officials.   No further details were released by the Health Officials but, in what appeared to be efforts to address speculation consequent upon the release as referenced, electricity provider VINLEC and telecommunications service provider FLOW issued separate statements addressing the issue.
