RICHMOND, Ind. Earlham College s plans for a commercial building east of its campus did not receive support Thursday from the Richmond Advisory Planning Commission.
The commission considered an ordinance that would change zoning for four Earlham-owned properties from residential to commercial and enable construction of a 6,600-square-foot building that could house four businesses. A motion to approve the zoning change, however, failed when three of the six commissioner members present voted against it.
That means the ordinance will return to Richmond Common Council without a recommendation from the planning commission. The city s planning staff, however, has recommended approval of the zoning change. Council, which next meets June 7, will determine the zoning change s fate.
