We are doing a reenactment of George Washingtons crossing of the Delaware River on christmas night 1776. What happened here is actually one of the most unexpected and daring military maneuvers of the American Revolution. And the story is washington and the Continental Army after having lost battled in new york and retreating across new jersey came into bucks county in the beginning of december 1776. They encamped in several locations around this area including the Thompson Neely house which is also part of our park. And things are pretty desperate at this point for washington and the patriot cause. The Continental Army really needed a win. Washington was afraid that the british were going to invade philadelphia and take over the capitol and he really knew that what he needed was a bold, bold action. We’re pleased to get this project underway to help to protect the cultural and historical significance of some of the buildings at Washington Crossing and continue the site s historic legacy for the public s education and enrichment, DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said.
The structures slated for improvement are located on the upper and lower parts of the park, which is also a National Historic Landmark.

Work has already begun on the Washington Crossing project, which is led by Mount Laurel-based contractor Wu & Associates.
Recreation opportunities offered at Washington Crossing include fishing, walking trails and pavilions for picnics. The park also hold historical and environmental education programs in addition to annual reenactments, such the famed Christmas event celebrating George Washington cross
