and a potential warren and clinton candidacy as well as her style, which matters. absolutely. elizabeth warren wouldn t say that she endorsed everything that ryan or thomas said today being on a stage with them but she s of a style, academic style to say she can engage the ideas. ryan, she also said something to you that almost sounded like it was ready to be a campaign slogan. let s take a listen to that. the game right now in america is rigged. it is rigged so that those at the top keep doing better and better. and everyone else is under increasing pressure. why does that matter? she leaned right into all of this. just like krystal said. and one reason it was so interesting to have them on the stage together is they basically make the same cases. you know, piketty does it empirically, saying that for 250 years across the globe the system has been rigged with one 30-year exception during that time. and she makes the case here in
couple years within her power. and the book also reads kind of like one of those presidential manifestos that comes out around this time. it talks about her hardscrabble upbringing, the values, how she s come about them, how she s struggled, how she s gotten ahead. so you know, and the answer i think certainly, you know, should fuel speculation about what her intentions are. right. and whether the answer s a beat off what she said before. ryan, you were talking to her and another author, thomas pickerty there, who s not a household name yet. but crystal he s getting here. these getting there. his book s got 200,000 copies in circulation. international best-seller. translated. making a big argument about how to deal with economic inequality. what does it mean she can go out and appear with him and do you think hillary would be as quick to do that? i do not think hillary would be as quick to do that. hillary is very careful in the choice that s she makes and in the people that
thomas piketty s work has, as you know, really sparked a huge debate. it s been an instant best-seller. very surprising best-seller, close to 700 pages, sort of economic tone. but people are really interested in his conversation, what he has to say about inequality. but for hillary clinton he s also a guy that s advocating and talks very comfortably about what he talks about as confiscatory top tax rates, upwards of 70% on top income. i think hillary clinton would be very careful ton associate herself directly with someone making those types of arguments. elizabeth warren, on the other hand, they really are speaking the same language about the way these issues of economic insecurity, of economic inequality, of capital inequality are not just issues to be talked about in sort of high intellectual society, these are bread and butter issues that ordinary americans should be fluent in and should understand and be comfortable talking about. right. and you re speaking, krystle, both to her

the united states the system s been rigged for the last 50 years. but there s remarkable convergence between the two pf in fact, after piketty was talking about his wealth tax, an annual tax on everybody s wealth, she said i m in, i m in. then she paused and she said, i m in for the idea that we need more fairness in our tax code. but you could see as she was listening to the professor lay out why the wealth tax is a necessary thing, it kind of resonated with her. but then she said, well, we need to look at all the details. she s still a united states senator, after all. well, and ryan, i think the way that you phrased your question to senator warren on whether or not she would run was so smartly phrased because that s the thing. this is a woman who i think everyone, whether you like her or not, can agree is really passionate about the issues she cares about. she is mission driven. she wakes up in the morning thinking about the middle class, about working-class people smep goes to be
