Wapello, IA- The Louisa County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of a Wapello man following a pursuit that ended in a crash. According to a news release, on Saturday, March 4th, at about 1:16 PM, a Louisa County Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle near 4th and Oak Street in Wapello. The vehicle didn't stop and continued through the city of Morning Sun and rural areas. The vehicle continued to elude and go into a field on 10th Street and R Avenue. The driver continued into the field until crashing into a creek, totaling the vehicle, and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies then apprehended the driver in another field without further incident. The suspect vehicle had reached speeds of approximately 118 MPH during the pursuit. The driver, 49-year-old Thomas McDowell of Wapello had an outstanding warrant out of Des Moines County for Domestic Abuse-3rd Offensem and was not valid to operate a vehicle.
