The Texas House has advanced legislation that would require K-12 school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to teach âinformed American patriotismâ through the founding documents of the U.S. starting in the 2021-22 school year.
The House passed House Bill 4509, by state Rep. Greg Bonnen, R-Friendswood, by a voice vote Thursday afternoon. It will need one more vote before it can be sent to the Texas Senate, which has already approved the similar Senate Bill 2026, authored by state Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood.

State Representative Greg Bonnen, along with State Senator Larry Taylor has written a pair of bills labeled as Informed Patriotism legislation. And both bills just made it out of committee.
Holly Hansen, who reported on the story for The Texan told KTRH, There s not a lot of objection to this legislation. With a better understanding of these documents, we ll have a better informed citizenry, and young people who will understand why our country was constructed the way that it is.

The New York Times, is “a sweeping attack on liberal thought and activism that…defends America’s founding against charges that it was tainted by slavery and likens progressivism to fascism.” Joe Biden scrapped it the day he entered office, and the report has since been scrubbed from all government websites.
This is perhaps for the best. However noble the intentions of the Commission’s members, their document is a profoundly flawed vision of American history, one that places the Declaration of Independence and Abraham Lincoln at the center of the American experience. That Lincolnian vision is now the accepted “conservative” consensus regarding American history.

A number of defendants are scheduled for Plea Court at the Indiana County Courthouse today, including one man who was involved in a two-day crime spree in Indiana and White Township last year.
20-year-old Spencer Hayes of Philadelphia will plead to multiple charges of robbery, conspiracy to robbery, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, theft, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, fleeing or eluding an officer, and numerous traffic offenses.
Hayes was involved with two other men whose cases are also in the court system. The three men are accused of forcibly entering a home on Center Street, strip-searching a man and woman and stealing their cell phones and a small amount of drug-related items, and then crashing a stolen car during a police pursuit the next day.
