But back in 1988, there was the possibility of getting a different pro team: the Milwaukee Brewers.
Five sites in Waukesha County were among 14 sites in the Milwaukee area suggested by consultants as possible locations for a new stadium, according to a Milwaukee Journal article from June 1988. At the time, County Stadium was 35 years old, so community leaders put together the Greater Milwaukee Committee to study possible sites.
Pewaukee s Western Lakes Golf Club had just opened, in April 1988, but was considered a potential site by the committee. Another nearby site under consideration was Pabst Farms in Oconomowoc.
August Pabst, the owner of Pabst Farms, was dubious the Brewers would play nearly 40 miles from Milwaukee.
