Ross jury selection ongoing; 11 seated | News, Sports, Jobs

Ross HOLLIDAYSBURG The Blair County trial of a Hollidaysburg area man facing first-degree murder will remain on hold today while efforts continue to finish seating a jury for the capital case. Blair County President Judge Elizabeth Doyle and attorneys involved in the pending trial of 48-year-old Paul Aaron Ross convened court on Saturday and Sunday to question more potential jurors for a trial that was supposed to start today at the Courthouse. As of Sunday night, they had seated 11 jurors for a panel to consist of 12 and four alternates. When the panel is full, Ross’ trial is to begin. Ross is accused of killing 26-year-old Tina S. Miller of Hollidaysburg, whose partly clad body was found June 27, 2004, in the water at Canoe Creek State Park.

Slow progress in Ross jury selection | News, Sports, Jobs

Ross HOLLIDAYSBURG The review of potential jurors to hear first-degree murder and related charges against a Hollidaysburg area man progressed slowly Wednesday and into the evening hours at the Blair County Courthouse. “As you’ve figured out, we’re not just picking 12 jurors out of a hat,” defense attorney Thomas M. Dickey told a prospective juror who had already answered questions for about a half hour. The juror-by-juror review, scheduled to continue today and Friday, is expected to produce a jury panel in the capital case against Paul Aaron Ross, accused of murdering 26-year-old Tina S. Miller of Hollidaysburg in 2004.

The day seven children and five adults lost their lives in boating tragedy

On Saint Patrick s Day, March 17, 1835, a boating tragedy in the waters between Wexford Quays and the Fort of Rosslare led to the loss of twelve lives. Seven of the twelve were children. We are no strangers to tragedy in the waters off our Wexford coast. In 1835, the ill-fated Pomona, the Mexico and the World Concord had yet to sail into our history books. For centuries our coastguard and lifeboat volunteers have been honoured for their bravery in saving lives at sea, and their stories have been handed down with pride. Sadly, this story has been largely forgotten and lost in time.
