I work in tax policy labor markets. One of the areas ive recently been focusing on is paid family leave. As im listening to the conversation i think you know generally talking about paid leave and child care and how we reform the existing system in the u. S. Is very important to the conversation that we have here. Ive also written about the system of child care, the Child Tax Credit, the you know, the system of tax credits that we have and how much of it is queued toward people at the top. How people with the benefits doesnt go to the people with the lower income. This is part of a larger discussion how do we reform child care how to we make it more accessible to people at the bottom. Protest a controversial free speech rally by right wing groups and authorities there theyre wrapping up the intense security presence they had today. The operation that was to keep everybody safe, the protestors and the right wing speakers raised a lot of concern about things, and any potential violence. Hundreds of police were on hand to secure this event, and there were some minor skir mishz, no major incidences to report. Nbcs garrett headache. Islands, killing 23 people. The destructive high winds and the storm surge pounding cuba today and of course the state of florida is now stranger to hurricanes. 40 of hurricanes hitting the u. S. Between 1851 and 2010, they slammed into floridas coast. Thats 114 hurricanes in 160 years. But its this storm, this storm irma, its the strongest seen in florida in 13 years. Now, officials predict millions will potentially be without power here for weeks after irma strikes. Once the storm starts, Law Enforcement cannot save you.
