Man held for August killing facing new arson-murder allegations

FAIRFIELD The Vacaville man charged with murder in the death of Priscilla Castro in August faces allegations of murder-arson for reportedly starting the Markley Fire that resulted in two more deaths, Solano County Sheriff Thomas Ferrara said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Sheriff’s Office.
Victor Serriteno, 29, is scheduled to appear Friday in Solano County Superior Court in connection with the new allegations.
“We believe Serriteno set the fire in an attempt to cover up his crimes,” Ferrara said.
The announcement ends an eight-month investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. A sheriff’s spokesman could not say when investigators started to suspect arson to be the cause of the blaze.

One Wildfire In 2020 s LNU Complex Believed to Have Been Arson to Cover Up Murder
One of last August s wildfires that merged with others to become the LNU Lightning Complex fires is now believed to have been the result of arson and the culprit, according to the Solano County Sheriff s Office, is a 29-year-old man who likely set the blaze to cover up an earlier murder.
The Markley Fire, which broke out on August 17 near Monticello Dam, had an origin point very close to where authorities later discovered the body of 32-year-old Priscilla Castro, on September 2. On Wednesday, a 29-year-old Vacaville man, Victor Serriteno, was arrested and charged with Castro s murder following an eight-month investigation, as the Associated Press reports.

A Newsday survey of the nation’s 50 largest law-enforcement agencies found just three that had not equipped large numbers of officers with body cameras before 2020: The Nassau and Suffolk police departments and the Portland Police Bureau, in Oregon.
Deployment of body cameras as standard police equipment extends from the nation’s largest force, the 35,000-member New York Police Department, to smaller agencies, including Freeport’s 100-officer department. It has occurred as law-enforcement authorities and the public have come to rely on video recordings to document crimes and police conduct.
