New Kent County would like to put a kayak and canoe launch at the Cumberland Marsh preserve on the Pamunkey River, but the cost has made them put the project on hold.

Although the proposed tax rate is 10 cents lower than the previous rate of 79 cents, the proposed rate would be a 3-cent increase because of the equalized rate of 66 cents, said New Kent County Administrator Rodney Hathaway.
