Semi Operator Drives Into Ditch To Avoid Collision

It was a very close call for two semi-tractor trailers on Highway 144 between Paton and Dana on Monday afternoon. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office reports they were called to the scene on U Avenue at 150 th Street at approximately 1:03 p.m. Their investigation revealed that 45-year-old William Richards of Coon Rapids was northbound on U Avenue in a 2001 Freightliner. He pulled out to pass a slow-moving vehicle, but did not see an oncoming 2007 Kenworth, driven by 40-year-old Thomas Dulaney of Dallas Center. Richards took evasive action to avoid a collision, swerving into the ditch, just clipping the other truck. Both semi-tractor trailers sustained only minimal damage, estimated at around $500 each. Richards was cited for unsafe passing.
