After last week’s windup on the poet and visual artist David Jones and musician Van Morrison, I ran out of the paltry column inches I’m allotted each week in this fish wrap. Trust me, there’s more – so much more – to write on both topics, but I’ll wrap it up now with Jones’ view of the Church as an archive of all that was important to Western civilization and artists/craftsmen as archivists.
Books and music. What else are you gonna do on a Saturday afternoon when the heavens pour down inches of snow, the roads are impassable, and nothing remotely related to televised sports and talking heads sounds appealing?
Ancient grains make for modern popularity. Heather and Thomas Dilworth, partners in Big Sandy Organics of Montana, found this out when they pitched their ancient-grain Kracklin’ Kamut snack in the Trailmix Pitch Competition in October 2022 and captured the $50,000 grand prize. They also captured shelf space for their product in the Albertsons’ Broadway location .
