LASD deputies honor fallen Deputy Thomas Albanese, who was killed in Lakewood crash

A Los Angeles County sheriff s motorcycle deputy was killed in a traffic collision, Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced Thursday morning. After joining the department in 2013, Albanese became a deputy in 2015. He first worked at the Men s Central Jail and then transferred to Transit Services at the Lakewood station. His dream was to become a motorcycle officer and he passed motor school in March 2020, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. Since then, he had been assigned to the Pico Rivera station. At the time of the crash, he was working overtime at the Lakewood station. Albanese is survived by his wife and two sons, ages 7 and 11.

Thomas Albanese, an Iraq War veteran with 7 and 11-year-old sons, died in a crash while trying to conduct a traffic stop in Lakewood Thursday. He was killed instantly. Funeral arrangements are pending for Albanese. A fellow deputy created a GoFundMe page for his family, garnering more than 530 donations by Friday morning.
