Issue. I commend the epa for working on this rule. Do you have a conference that this final rule is protective of health and the environment, are there gaps in the protections under this rule that would need to be filled by legislation . I believe the rule is very strong and very protective. And in terms of any gaps we dont believe there are any gaps. We believe all the risks are put in place. All the rigorous technical information. What about beneficial reuse . Will this rule restrict beneficial reuse in anyway to stigmatize coal ash . We dont believe it will. The real clarity is not subject to the rule. But still i expect were going to hear from the second panel that legislation is needed to remove epas authority to regulate cole ash under subtitle c in the future. What factors might lead epa to some day regulate coal ash under subtitle c. To be clear we had proposed an approach under d and c. We made a decision under d the seat proposal is no longer on the table. Like any other rule
They wrote that thing, to protect us from that sort of thing. Okay, chris. Chris, i guess one of the issues i would have with your assessment is we have cut the deficits by more than half of what they were when george bush was president. The dow was about 7,000. It exceeded 17,000. The economy was up as i said, over 12 . Corporate profits up over 46 and so the suggestion that these policies were bad for america just frankly doesnt make sense to me. Now, what does is that those policies stopped the collapse of our economy but now weve got to build a foundation for people who have been left behind. For those middle class workers who have been looking at their pay stubs saying i dont see those statistics. And thats why i believe and why democrats believe, the focus has to be the middle class. They deserve a break because my sense is particularly in any district, people say if youre really rich, the government is there for you and if youre really poor, the government will help you but if y
President sarcoys of france. Chancellor merkel of germany and president calderone of mexico. It was initiated by congress but agreed to by all four leaders. So it is out of the ordinary that the speaker would decide that he would be inviting people to a joint session without any bipartisan consultation. And of course, we always our friendship with israel is a very strong one. Prime minister netanyahu has spoken to the joint session two times already. There are concerns about the fact that as i understand it from this morning, this presentation will take place within two weeks of the election in israel. I dont think that is appropriate for any country that the head of state would come here within two weeks of his own election in his own country. The more serious part of your question is about the sanctions. Yes, the president was correct in his presentation on the strength in which he presented his appeal to congress that we not have sanctions at this time. Putting it in perspective, th
Ambassador altidor. [applause] i know we had to leave shortly, but will turn to the next panel for judith to take over. Thank you very much, ambassador altidor for those remarks and being so candid and open with us and passionate about the future of haiti. Thank you. So now, we are going to turn to a panel of people who will bring some experience they have encountered working on the ground to tell you about some of the important accomplishments and challenges they are encountering. But pamela coe, have a coffee break at the end of it. At the panda will go for about an hour. Each of them will speak for about 20 minutes and then have a joint question and answer for both of them. You have their biographies and a section of paper attached to the program, so i wont read it all to you. But just to say that to my immediate left, its a great pleasure to have Elizabeth Lake with us who is Senior Vice President for advocacy and Governor Affairs for habitat for Humanity International. Youve all h
For this and support this and i want to use my remaining time to talk a little bit about the budget resolution the Budget Conference Committee that we are going to talk about later. I completely agree with chairman mckeon. In the spirit what i said about the ndaa, about the necessity of getting our job done, we need to pass a budget. I know it impacts all manner of other pieces of government but im most familiar with what it does to the department of defense to not have a budget, to not have Appropriations Bills, to have to go from c. R. To c. R. To Government Shutdown threat to actual Government Shutdown to another Government Shutdown threat, you simply cannot function as well as you should or as well as you would if you had a dependable budget that said heres what you have. It would never be what all of us want. It is better of the predictability of having an appropriations process. Its critical we Pass National defense authorizing act, its critical we pass the budget. We have to fun
