According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the accused s lawyer submitted arguments to the court in which they pleaded for her release on bail. The defence wants the minor to be released in the custody of her mother. The investigating officer then told the court that the minor was not safe after she was rescued from fellow pupils who wanted to attack her. The second witness, who is a teacher at the school, testified that the pupil was not a class prefect as her lawyer claimed. The State has closed its case, Malabi-Dzhangi added.
The 14-year-old was released into the care of her parents.
She was warned not to interfere with witnesses.
The 14-year-old Limpopo girl accused of assaulting Lufuno Mavhunga, has been released on bail and back into her parents care.
Limpopo National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said while the State opposed bail, the Children s Court sitting at the Thohoyandou Magistrate s Court set it at R1 500.
The girl cannot be named because she is a minor. We opposed the bail looking at the seriousness of the offence even though we are dealing with a child in conflict with the law, Malabi-Dzhangi said.

Camorin Du Plessis took the initiative to organise the anti-bullying campaign pledge at Portland High, with the help of other pupils and staff.
Speaking to News24, 17-year-old Du Plessis said Portland High had always been a school opposed to bullying. We were raising awareness concerning the crime of bullying in honour of Lufuno Mavhunga who was bullied by her schoolmates, said Du Plessis, who is in Grade 11.
On Monday, a notice was issued to pupils to inform them of the anti-bullying campaign pledge. On Tuesday morning, as pupils, teachers and support staff entered the school for Covid-19 screening, they were invited to sign the pledge to show their support for the campaign.

It is believed that 15-year-old Mavhunga took her own life, after a video showing her being assaulted, went viral on social media.
