THE bail application of a 14-year-old pupil from Mbilwi Secondary School in Sibasa accused of assaulting Lufuno Mavhunga (15) was postponed to Thursday, 22 April at the Thohoyandou Children’s Court.
The teenager was arrested last week after she was seen
repeatedly slapping Lufuno in a video that went viral on social media.
The incident is believed to have been the cause of Lufuno’s death. The grade 10 pupil was found unconscious by her mother after she took an overdose of pills. She was rushed to Siloam Hospital, where she was certified dead.

Pretoria - The 14-year-old Mbilwi Secondary School pupil arrested for assaulting fellow pupil Lufuno Mavhunga was set to return to court on Tuesday for a bail application.
The video of the April 12 assault at the teenagersâ Limpopo school went viral on social media and Lufuno later died by suicide at her parentsâ home.
The arrested girl appeared before a presiding officer last week for a preliminary inquiry, Limpopo spokeswoman for the National Prosecuting Authority Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said in a statement on Tuesday.
âThe preliminary inquiry was concluded last week. She will appear today (Tuesday) in the Thohoyandou Childrenâs Court,â Malabi-Dzhangi said.

A 14 year-old limpopo pupil, who was arrested in connection with assault of Lufuno Mavhunga, a fellow learner at Mbilwi secondary school, is expected to make her second appearance in the Thohoyandou Children’s Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 April 20, 2021.
The teenage girl made her first appearance in the dock on Friday after being arrested for attacking Mavhungu.
Video of the assault went viral on social media and is believed to have resulted in Mavhunga taking her own life.

The 14-year-old Limpopo teen who was caught on video, allegedly assaulting Lufuno Mavhunga, who later suicide by suicide, will remain in custody at a state youth centre after her bail application was postponed.
The Mbilwa Secondary High School pupil made her second appearance at the Thohoyandou Children’s Court on Tuesday where an application to return to her parent’s care was denied. This is after the State asked for a postponement to Thursday.
According to the teen’s defence lawyer, the postponement was due to a shortage of magistrates.
