welcome back. president biden is tokyo for the second leg of his asia trip. the president is scheduled to meet with the japanese prime minister tomorrow. that meeting is coming amid renewed tensions with north korea. let s go straight to our white house correspondent who is traveling with the president in tokyo. jeremy, the president offered a brief message, rather, to north korean leader kim jong-un. what did he say? well, president biden wrapped up his visit to south korea on sunday with a message first to u.s. troops, thanking them for their service as they were stationed in the area. also thanking south korean troops jointly positioned at this air base in south korea. but the president wrapped up this visit without that icbm test or a nuclear test being carried out by north korea. something u.s. intelligence officials indicated was possible if not likely. president biden did, indeed,
especially when it comes to defense, given all the moves by north korea, even in the last few days? he seems to be a man who s talking more about deterrence rather than diplomacy. paula, this is a man who was inaugurated just 11 days ago, so clearly we are learning more about him every day that we see him in the public eye. certainly when he was campaigning to be president, he focused very much on the fact he wanted a stronger relationship with the united states. he wanted a strong defense posture with the united states and to have a strong security relationship. but he said he wanted to go further than that. he wanted a comprehensive and strategic relationship. he pointed out he wanted stronger economic ties. now, all of this clearly would have been music to the ears of washington as this appears to be what president biden wants as well, given the fact that his very first stop on this asia trip was to a samsung
despot on his asia trip, coming off his meeting with russian president vladimir putin where he made a soft pitch to respect our next election. and this morning s stat status-conferring visit with kim comes a month after north korea violated u.n. restrictions by firing short-range missiles and it has not agreed to stop pursuing nuclear weapons, although president trump insists talks will restart thanks to today s meeting. so my question, other than what was gained by this bizarre milestone, is how does the president pick the dictators he taunts and the ones he talks to? or do these strong men just speak his language? joining me now, dean, radio host
