Published Saturday, July 17, 2021 10:13PM EDT Last Updated Sunday, July 18, 2021 7:43AM EDT WASHINGTON - The game between the San Diego Padres and Washington was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after a shooting outside Nationals Park that caused echoes of gunfire inside the stadium and prompted fans to scramble for safety in the dugout. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren t considered life-threatening.

At least four people have been injured in a shooting outside of Washington Nationals Park in D.C. Saturday night, according to law enforcement.
The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department announced on Twitter that two people were shot in the 1500 block of South Capitol Street, SW. This is currently an active investigation and it appears there is no ongoing threat at this time, the Department tweeted.

The shooting happened in the 1500 block of South Capitol Street, Southwest, with one car pulling up beside another and engaging in gunfire, police said. The cars sped down South Capitol Street, Executive Assistant Chief of Police Ashan Benedict said.
