More Nigerian Schools to Get Thinking School Accreditation

By Uchechukwu Nnaike The Greensprings Training College (GTC) has announced that more Nigerian schools are adopting the Thinking School education approach based on how the novel approach is reinforcing schools’ curriculum across the world. The education approach was first embraced in Nigeria in 2018 by Greensprings School, Lagos, and now, Grenville Schools, Lagos and Evergreen School, Enugu are also on their way to becoming certified Thinking Schools, courtesy of GTC. Explaining the importance of Thinking School accreditation, the Head of Greensprings Training College and one of the programme’s national trainers, Mr. Abraham Ogunkambi, said the aim of the programme is to help schools build a community in which their students, teachers and even parents can become pragmatic problem solvers.

OPINION | SA education must shift focus from just passing, to developing life long skills

The curricula in both basic and higher education systems are still largely theoretical and struggling when it comes to imparting problem-solving skill. A big congratulations to the Grade 12 Class of 2020 is in order. Achieving an overall pass rate of 76,2% despite all the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic is not a small feat by any measure. The doomsayers who had advised us to abandon the academic year must be licking their wounds and egos right now. While we have the right to celebrate good academic performance in matric and institutions of higher learning, the fact of the matter is that there is still huge room for improvement in our education system.
