is serious. i don t think they are sincere. i don t think syria is sincere. russia has provided a bunch of diversionary tactics at the security council. they ve stopped u.n. envoys, brahimi, annan from doing something about a political settlement in syria. they are stalling and aiming to influence the congressional vote, give them an excuse. a member of congress can say, let s see this diplomatic initiative. diplomacy failed in this effort. we have tried hard to push for a diplomatic solution. i think the administration, tamron, should stay the course and proceed with the vote. they ve made a good strong case. it s going to be tough but that s how i would proceed. i would be very careful about accepting or starting to negotiate on this diversionary tactic. whods going to enforce it? you have to go to the u.n. security council to enforce a
think there s a rush to do it in the next week, that we can take our time, try to build allies, wait for the u.n. inspectors to come back with proof that it was actually the assad regime which used it, which i m pretty sure that it was, but we don t have to rush into this. and i think part of the president coming to congress shows that there wasn t a need to rush and that he s trying to think it through. so, the unfortunate part about this, chris, is that this is all going to boil down to trust, whether the people out there who oppose it trust their congressperson to make the right decision, whether we trust that the president has all the facts, has all the plans, and that he only intends to do limited strikes and get us out of there. all of it s a question of trust and part of it s a question of just how it will play out and what syria does. now, the other thing that i m probably confident in is the fact that i don t think syria has the capacity to respond to anything that we did, but
syria doing anything about this? no, i don t think syria, iran, or russia for that matter is going to start a war with the united states. i think that s fanciful. and it s also the case that the freedom fighter in the country right now and the majority of the people fighting are not al qaeda. just imagine what they will feel after the united states has assured them that they were going to take action against assad and then we did nothing? i mean, if you want to get rid of assad, you ve got to be able to support the people who are fighting against him and most of those are not al qaeda. but, again, the bottom line is excuse me. senator, with all due respect, hasn t the president said that he s not looking for a regime change? so will you say if you want to get rid of assad? yeah. he has said that. and that s why my former colleague senator mccain made it clear he would not support the resolution unless there was language that integrated the
obligation to go kill people? the moral obligation is to not have chemical weapons. can i take it one step further? can we do that in north korea? is it only chemical weapons? how about biological weapons and i i, ntuing hundreds of thousands of people. what. i don t think syria is syria part of that treaty? look, that s a good answer right there. we said this before. it is the reverse domino theory. if you feel that way, go after those other countries. this is not about syria. it is about iran. it may be about russia. why are we pretending it is about syria. hit the news in iran. be done with it. they are the ones threatening
happy you are not huffing computer duster. maybe this is why we are a nation of ambivalent people. have you talked to anybody outside of the studio about syria? they don t know what s going on. it is fashion week right now in new york. that is what is going on. fashion week. not syria. you can talk about both. oh, sure you have. i bet you have been down there. i could give you all one piece of advice. try one day a week and don t use it. it is like the sabbath. kimberly, take one day off and not look for a husband. special report with bret baier is up next.
