she brought charges against trump and 18 others in georgia. now fani willis has some serious questions of her own to answer. tonight on laura coates live. the election subversion case against trump in georgia is a sprawling one. it involves more than a dozen co-defendants, some of trump s closest allies and sweeping racketeering charges otherwise known as rico. you ve all heard people talk about it. now a new let s call it a wrinkle for a second could make this case a whole lot messier. it relates to fulton county district attorney fani willis, the special prosecutor, nathan wade, she brought in and whether there s some big conflict of interest that would affect the underlying charges. wade s estranged wife is alleging willis had an affair with her husband and she says she s got receipts to back it up. now there are new records released in the divorce proceedings, including copies of credit card statements that show wade purchased airline tickets for himself and for willis,
to how do you felt before this booking, you either love donald trump and you look at a guy who is being persecuted while is he being prude or look at a guy who is really guilty and getting caught. so it s like both sides of the political spectrum are embracing this picture for their own uses. yeah. i think it s an interesting point. look, he knew in advance he was going to have a mugshot. he made a determination as to how he was going to appear in it. steve: absolutely. and, you know, he is conveying a message. if they can do this to me, they can do this to you. ainsley: yeah. he didn t smile. that was probably intentional. yeah. ainsley: he said he was 6 3 and what did he weigh 215 pounds? he says he has blond strawberry. brian: he did not swear in before giving his weight. i don t think fani willis will convict him for lying about his stats. apes ain t we all do that we all make that number a little lower.
the deadline to do so is noon today. and d.a. fani willis, she wants to have all 19 arraignments the week of september 5th. guys? brian: what do you think the significance of chesebrough splitting out in october and going on trial by himself he has the right to ask for a speedy trial. from a logistical point of view, you know, this could actually benefit him because it allows, perhaps, the prosecution less time to prepare this case. remember, this is a ricco racketeering case. it is complicated. also, also is not great. we have been told for the prosecutor, we have been told by experts that this is a sign that, perhaps, this judge is willing to try these cases separately, which makes prosecuting a ricco racketeering case much more difficult. so, look, the october 23rd, 2023
her career is fundraising off of it. which is an egregious abuse of power and a violation of the canons of ethics that govern prosecutors. it s shameless. ainsley: do you think this is a federal case that shouldn t be tried locally? yeah. i think one of the motions that will be made meadows have already made it. i think trump will make it a lot of the alleged criminal acts t.j. makes. pennsylvania. arizona. they will move it until they make a motion to move it under subject matter and diversity jurisdiction to federal court and i think they have a good shot at that that s the where it belongs. but, frankly, it doesn t belong in any court of law. steve: you were talking about how fani willis fundraising changed her website. donald trump is actually fundraising with the same picture. yeah. yeah. steve: i was just talking to one of the producers, the picture essentially has become a rorschach test because according
you almost can t argue the opposite of what the facts, again, in the words and testimony of trump die hard supporters in the state of georgia had been since this happened. yeah, this is really it s going to be very interesting to see how this plays out time-wise. andrew and i have talked ability this on the air before. jack smith would want to go first, but will fani willis end up getting a trial date before jack smith does on those charges related to january 6th? and what interplay will there be with the witnesses? because there ll be many witnesses in common with both. i do think fani willis has particular expertise in using the racketeering status in georgia. and she did that with the teaching cheating scandal. something you don t think of. when you think of rico you think of gang centers. you don t think of educators
