Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) have signed a contract for the development of a regional port at the island of Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Under the deal, the port will be developed on a 108,000 square foot area allocated in the island.
Overall, the contract includes dredging a 4,500 cubic meter area in the lagoon, leveling the ground in the area, installing a security fence and a smart water drainage system.
Managing Director of MTCC, Mr. Adam Azim said at the signing ceremony, which was held yesterday, that MTCC expects to complete the project within 45 days.

Maldives State Shipping (MSS) connects Tuticorin in India with Addu and Huvadhoo atolls via a direct shipping line, marking MV Bonthi 2 as their first vessel carrying goods to dock at Thinadhoo on Tuesday.
Transport Minister, Aishath Nahula spoke at a ceremony to commemorate the historical moment reiterating the commitment that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih s administration has made to improving transportation infrastructure among islands. She made references to the recent establishment of cargo ferry routes between India s Cochin and Kulhudhuffushi, as well as the current shipping connection being developed between Tuticorin, Addu and Thinadhoo within the same vein.
