Education officials across Vermont say theyâll need help from the state in order to reconnect with chronically truant students that have âghostedâ school during the pandemic.
Convincing reluctant students to come to school can be a tough sell even under the best of circumstances. Throw remote learning and a public health crisis into the mix, and schoolsâ ability to connect with disengaged youth has become even harder.
âLearning is a social construct, always has been,â said Jay Nichols, head of the Vermont Principals Association. âThatâs why Plato and Socrates were pretty successful teachers ⦠Discussion, talking, clarifying your thinking, hearing the thinking of others â thatâs how our brains are wired to work. And the less of that you have, the harder it is to learn.â
