Laura Bissonnette
The 9-year-old granddaughter of Laura Bissonnette, a keyboardist for St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Southeast Portland, was hit and killed by a car March 6. Bissonnette’s daughter, Victoria Martins-Read, and 2-year-old granddaughter, Maggie, were injured but survived.
A memorial service for Baylei will be held at St. Joseph the Worker March 27.
A spunky girl who hoped to be a veterinarian, Baylei was “a bright light and giant spirit in diminutive human form,” said Bissonnette four days after her death. “The world was so blessed to have her, and it will take a long time to find our bearings now that she is gone.”
Semipermeable membranes and distance learning
select Rebecca Imison, a kindergarten teacher at St. Therese School in Northeast Portland, leads her class in âall-together art,â which kindergarteners do every Friday with Imison or Natalia DeMuro, the other kindergarten teacher. Imison and DeMuro send home a paper bag filled with the materials for the project. âItâs really fun,â said Rosemarie El Youssef, principal. The Medford school has been on a hybrid schedule where children can come for no longer than two hours at a time on a staggered schedule. The rest of their schoolwork took place at home â until Jan. 18, when the school reopened.
