Ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo repeated his infamous "who cares?" response to thousands of nursing home deaths that occurred under his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new readout of his Tuesday grilling before a House committee.
The audit details how health officials undercounted deaths in nursing homes by more than 50% at certain points during the height of the pandemic, echoing similar findings reported by Attorney General Letitia James’ office last year.
“I was told that after a thorough investigation – as we have said all along – there was no evidence to suggest that any laws were broken,” said Elkan Abramowitz, a lawyer for Cuomo.
The report also found that the former Gov. Andrew Cuomo s executive chamber "substantially revised" a state report to exclude deaths of nursing home residents at hospitals to boost his reputation.
