Ocala father rebukes man who pleads guilty in son s death
David Hammett didn t mince words when addressing Dalton Wayne Purvis, one of four people charged in connection with the death of Hammett s son in October 2018
Speaking by phone on Monday during a court hearing, Hammett said Purvis took his son away from him and his wife. He called Purvis a murderer. He said Hammett took away his son s dream of studying computer science. He said he will never have grandchildren from his son.
As Hammett spoke – sometimes using foul language, which the judge asked him to curtail – Purvis watched and listened via video link from the Marion County Jail. Purvis put his hands together and bowed his head. At times, the 21-year-old man used his jail shirt to wipe his face.
