thousands and thousands and thousands of people have lost everything they have worked for. they have lost businesses and homes. many of them don t have insurance. what we try to do, martha, is we our teams will have five different areas that we work. in right now we are working today in rockport. we are working in victoria. then we will set up three more locations in the houston area as soon as the floodwaters recede. we can t do anything until that happens. but, what we will have volunteers. we can take about 1,000 a day. and they will be assigned to an area or to a home and with that homeowner, if there is a tree fallen on their house, we will cut it off. if the house needs to be retarped, the roof, we will do that for them. if they want us to clean the house out and take all the wet furniture, the carpets and all that out to the road, we will do that. we will cut the drywall off the wall so the studs are exposed so the house can dry
minimum wage down. gregg: are they taking jobs away? that is the real question. i mean in an economy like this where we re having trouble and there is such high unemployment, people are willing to work at jobs they may not be willing to in more boom ties times. they are not taking away too many skilled jobs? there is a big debate go b that, bringing in more skilled laborers, immigrants. do they use social programs like hospitals and schools that take taxpayer money and that is therefore another implication on our economy? most of them don t have insurance. if they get sick they will go to the emergency room and eventually the government pays for that. schools are paid for by taxpayers but they tend to petraeus roll taxes and don t use the social

crying or too overcome to speak, mostly they just sort of moan and say that they are obviously devastated. many of them don t have insurance. these are poor people, a lot of them. and they re working class americans. these are people who, you know, help keep the country going, and now they don t have anything. it just came through and literally you can look at this place and just ripped a path right through many neighborhoods here in alabama and all across the south. this one tree has been here forever. really just ripped out of the ground. you asked me, what are some of the survivors saying? we re going to talk to one right now. benny lacy. she looks young but she s in her 60s she tells me. you ve been here for 14 years? 14 years. you were in the house. what happened? me and my husband went running, trying to make it to the bathroom. it hit and all the windows expoeded in pressure. it was worse than a train coming through.
