Two youthful Maun men who were convicted for raping a woman during an armed robbery at her home in Thito ward four years ago have been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for robbery and another 6 years for rape.
Both sentences will run concurrently, which means they will spend only six years in prison.
The duo, Leatile Setlhare and Michael Jepuira Kandu, were teenagers aged 17 and 19 when they attacked a young woman at around 2:00am on Sunday, 3 December 2017.
It is said the woman had parked her car next to her house but as soon as she got out, the two thugs pounced on her, snatching her Samsung J5 phone (valued at P2, 500) before running away.
LOCKED UP: Newman Gaabone
A Francistown Magistrates Court this week sentenced to 10 years, former Tafic coach- Newman Gaobone, for a single count of rape.
According to court papers, between 29th and 30th of January 2014 at Gerald Estates location, Gaobone unlawfully had carnal knowledge with a then 15 year old girl without her consent.
It was heard that when the complainant left church at Boccim grounds to Block 1 she walked past Chedu Choga where she met with the accused person who then offered her a lift home.
The accused is said to have then taken the accused to his house in Gerald Estates where he raped her three times.
PRISON BOUND: Choto and Gabantheetse leaving court
Two armed robbers who subjected a Maun woman to a night of hell on Independence Day back in 2018, have been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each.
43-year-old local Moagi Gabantheetse and Zimbabwean national Lloyd Choto, 37, were convicted of a single count of robbery as well as theft of a motor vehicle.
Following their conviction back in December, the two men received their punishments before Maun Magistrates Court this week.
It could have been worse for the duo as they received 10 years for robbery and a further five years for the car theft.
However, instead of sentencing the thieves to 15 years behind bars, Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalo tempered justice with mercy, ruling the sentences would run concurrently.
