It seems so long since theaters were operating in their own special ways. Looking back, the year 2020 started off with some really good shows. Eastbound was packing the house with their hilarious cabaret production of “Four Weddings and an Elvis” and the Ridgefield Theater Barn was stuffing its cabaret seating with “Smorgasbord.” It was also a real treat to attend “Constellations” at New Milford’s TheatreWorks. And then came March and the COVID-19 pandemic
NEW MILFORD â TheatreWorks New Milfordâs Page 2 Stage series will present a free virtual staged reading of âHate Mail,â a comedy by Kira Obolensky and Bill Corbett, on Saturday night, Dec. 19.
In a Dec, 11 announcement, TheatreWorks provided a brief description of the plot. When Preston (Matt Austin) writes a furious letter to a store demanding a refund for a broken snow globe, he gets assistant manager Dahlia (Heather Haneman) fired â and finds a vengeful epistolary match. In this wickedly funny alternative to âLove Letters,â the two embark on an epic, often acrimonious correspondence as their lives intertwine. Whether Preston and Dahlia are joining cults, having breakdowns, shipping each other deceased lizards, or falling in love, âHate Mailâ is a two-person comedy dull of surprises.
