Naomi alderman, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you for having me. I want to start at the beginning. You were raised in a very traditional, observant orthodoxJewish Community in north london where, i think its fair to say, women and girls were expected, by and large, to stay in the background. Now, you today have a very powerful, unique, creative voice. You use it loudly. How difficult was it to find that voice, to make that move away . Now, i should say, i do come from a traditional observant background. However, my father is a professor of history. So from that perspective, i came from an intellectually very open culture, even whilst, yes, i have been to a talk as a young woman on the subject, the beauty of a woman is in her silence. So, yes. And you were brought up in a religion and you talk about it quite openly in stuff youve written about your past, where at school, every morning, everybody said, thank you, god, for not making me a slave. And then the boys said, thank you, god, for no
Talking about the stability of a six or seven week ceasefire in gaza. But, of course, israel decided not to send a delegation. Israels says the preconditions it insisted upon that hamas should provide a list of the hostages who remain alive, and those who might be exchanged in a prisoner swap, or hostage swap, with the palestinians, that wasnt forthcoming. So israel has decided not to send a delegation to cairo. That has been criticised in many parts of the israeli media, and the israeli public, as an unsustainable position. That isnt to say that had israel gone to cairo, there would be an automatic ceasefire there would be others stumbling blocks. Hamas wants the withdrawal of israeli troops from Populated Areas of gaza and the citizens of gaza to be allowed to return to their home areas in northern gaza. And those are significant issues that israel might have objected to. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in gaza is said to be increasingly dire. The israeli attacks on positions,

We start with a look at the race for the oval office, a brandnew fox news poll sheds light on how voters feel about the remaining president ial can dates. Youre hearing them for the first time. Emadeleine rivera joins us with he detail. There is a lot of tough data for the president. It shows former President Trump with a slight edge over President Biden. Trump leads biden 4947 in a hypothetical general election matchup, that 2 point advantages is within the margin of error. That gap becomes wider in a potential contest between the president and nikki haley with the former South Carolina governor leading biden by 8 points. Hally doesnt do as well in a possible five way race. In this scenario s
At least 14 of democratic voters however declared themselves to be uncommitted, not favouring any candidate. This is seen as strong pushback to biden from key demographics that he might need to win the state again progressives, voters of color, and arab and muslim voters concerned by his stance on the the israel gaza war. Activists in the state had been organising to send President Biden a message no ceasefire, no vote, and encouraged voters to select the uncommitted option instead of the president s name. The Biden Campaign released a statement, but didnt mention theissue statement, but didnt mention the issue of a ceasefire. The group which urged democrats to vote uncommitted, released a statement, listen to michigan saying see you there, it says. The movement has wide ranging endorsements including congresswoman rashida tlaib, who posted this earlier. I was proud today to walk in and pull a democratic ballot and vote uncommitted. We must protect our democracy. We must make sure that
