strengthen to a category 1 hurricane by the time it reaches the island wednesday night. officials have declared a state of emergency residents still recovering from hurricane maria in 2017 could begin feeling the intense winds as early as tomorrow morning. joining me now is nbc correspondent morgan chesky live in san juan, puerto rico. as always, in the 24 to 36 hours before a storm like that, it looks pretty good where you are. but people are very, very worried. yeah. ali, they certainly know better here in this neighborhood in san juan and still recovering from hurricane maria and signs of that here in this neighborhood. those blue tarps that were handed out by fema almost two years ago which are in this neighborhood and all across san juan covering so many homes. the only protection a lot of people have from the elements. we had a chance to speak to the mayor of san juan today. that said 10% of the population not just in san juan but all
the ratings shift, let me just tell you about the ratings shift. it is more gradual with everyone factored in but as you see in 2018, 53% got as sorry. 2008 it was 53/35. in 2018, 45/52. that had flipped. robin thomas joins me now. that s a lot of numbers. i want you to make sense of that for us. what has changed? have democrats changed in what they say about guns or has the nra s rating system changed? no, democrats have changed, ali. i think what s interesting about some of these results is that when you dig a little deeper you find that democrats that ran election campaigns on a gun safety platform won. and those that didn t in the past of those 67 from 2008 many of them were those that were in the nra s pocket or at least when it came to gun issues were
victims. i m still going through my notes to tie the number up for you, ali. having covered several trials of significant sexual abuse, i ll have to tell youy that i heard s very direct, very detailed, and very powerful. i don t think there is anybody that left the courtroom here today that felt good about what they heard. but a number of the victims stated they felt good about having the opportunity to be heard, ali. tom, stand by while i ask jennifer this question. i m asking you this because this is what everybody i talked to asks me. there seem to have been lots of other people involved. in florida there were unnamed people. in the arrangement that was made here. every single one of these witnesses speaks of other people who were facilitators or involved in some way. why have we not seen anything else? why have we not seen other arrests or other charges? what do you believe is going on right now?
projected pathway of dorian we don t believe it is going to be a direct hit. a lot of people are breathing a sigh of relief. but from what we ve encountered today certainly everyone is crossing their fingers as the storm still looks to be plenty powerful especially in the vulnerable state that a lot of communities are in here in puerto rico. morgan, president trump tweeted about dorian today saying, wow. yet another big storm heading to puerto rico. will it ever end? congress approved $92 billion for puerto rico last year. an all time record of its kind for anywhere. can you just fact check that for me? we did look into that number and the 92 million has yet to be approved. the numbers that we confirmed is that of all the money that has been discussed only about 11 to 14 billion has been already spent here on the island. anything else for the people who live here is simply just a number, ali. from the roofs to the poor conditions we ve seen a lot of these homes in there is still so
rouhani if conditions were right. joining me, johnny wright spent two years covering international affairs. how much of a development is this, because united states expressed no interest in lifting sanctions on iran? does that mean it cooks the whole thing, that means no talks? certainly sounds like it. yesterday, rouhani himself was making a gesture that there might be an opportunity. today, i think he s probably heard from his boss, the supreme lead ali. and the trump administration has no giving in. so it doesn t look like there s going to be sanctions. we are about a month out. a little more than a month out from the u.n. general assembly. and rouhani will be in new york, as will president trump.
