right, including to donald trump, who has celebrated her. the mother of ashli babbitt met with kevin mccarthy. tell me about what you learned about the sort of culture around ashli babbitt and her death. she s often spoken of as unarmed which she wasn t. she was carrying a nasty little knife. that s the evidence photo on the cover. as soon as i saw her death on january 6th, and you could see the hands of the police officer who killed her, and he was a black man. because i m an american and i study american history and mythology, i knew what the right was going to do. and, sure enough, within days, they were telling the same old story, the lynching story. they were aging ashli back, making her a martyr, as if a little white girl. there s a lot of people who speak of the right as a death
what we saw in the first year is a massive increase in recidivism rates and a massive uptick in the involvement of serious crime among youths. we ve seen a 200% rise in youth gun crime. we ve seen a near tripling of youth gun victimization. this is not helping them despite being presented as martha: the same old story. when there s no consequences, you ll see more crime be committed. it s heart breaking. in a lot of these cases, you have kids that adults just over 18 that are making the younger kids carry the guns when they do things, when they break into a store or a home or carjack, right? yeah, this is something when i was in law school, i worked at the cook county state s attorney s offices. some of the prosecutors that i talked to this is 2013 were talking about this where older gang members were using younger kids to hold firearms, to hold contraband that they
finding out, there is not much sign of that at the moment. a new year, but the same old story. travellers are facing another week of intense disruption on the railways, with strikes called by two unions, the rmt and aslef. it s a real headache for people like karim. she is on a zero hours contract and needs to get to work. i m completely reliant on the train service. there is no other way for me to get to work. and myjob is an in personjob. i can t work from home. so every day of strikes, i lose a day s wages. only one in five trains will be running today. many lines are closed altogether. the rmt has called a 48 hour strike involving workers at network rail and 14 train operators. when that ends, aslef train drivers will walk out on thursday, before another rmt strike begins on friday. ijust feel they could have left it just now until things try and get back to some normality. i think it s a shame that this is all.
