give us an update. i unsderstand that the military is out in force. where are the demonstrators? the military has rolled in here and quite a large number of armored personnel carriers. it s quite an amazing scene here deployed into other places throughout the central area of alexandria. crowds are rushing up to greet the soldiers, to slap them on the backs, to shake their hands to say that they are here in solidarity and to protect them, they said. there s an overwhelming sense that the people here on the streets have been in violent protest and riot with the police and burning police stations and other parts of the building in the city through the day. here, suddenly a warm, friendly atmosphere with the army, a completely different atmosphere

haven t done my job. impart of the events now and the world needs to know how they are being treated here. and that s what i did. there s no internet in egypt. there are no more mobile phones. all mobile communication is cut off. so the world has no way of know knowing and what you see is what you believe. i have to show it to the world. assad beaten by police and bandaged up. we have more to share with you. stay with cnn. now people everywhere are getting a deep clean and fresher mouth without the intensity that kept them away. it still kills bad breath germs for a whole mouth clean. but it s never felt so good.

itself is on fire and there are xurmishes going on there as well. right now in front of our own building, as you can see, the crowds are sort of dispersing somewhat. we of course had some massive scenes here throughout the evening until the military finally rolled in. that really dispersed the situation. i can tell you i was on the ground for aloft the time when the fighting was really going on. there was really a sense by a lot of the demonstrators that i spoke to that the egyptian security forces are not invincible. it really was interesting to see how these people were galvanized, how they were beating back the police in some cases after the police had fired tear gas on them. then the protestors would start charging as we were there when they actually captured a police vehicle and beat up that vehicle and then eventually set it on fire. so we spoke to a lot of people who said that they feel that right now is the time that they had to fight for change. interestingly, some of them tol

streets? international analysts have all weighed in. but, in the end, theirs is the most important opinion here. reporter: well, you know, i think that there was a lot of enthusiasm when the first demonstration took place on tuesday, when many egyptians and we re talking about people of every stripe of egyptian society, mudz limbs, christians, students, office workers, farmers, construction workers, all sort of joined in to this prote protest. and it s amazing to think that in just a matter of four days it s come to this where the egyptian government, which is so much a part of everybody s life here, whether they like it or not, seems to have drifted away. the police are gone. the army has taken its place. the republican guard has apparently taken up post outside of the tv station. but the normal functions of the
