State Gas strikes gas at Rougemont-1 well
Sydney-listed State Gas on May 24 said its first well in the Rolleston-West gas project in central Queensland had confirmed the existence of gas-bearing coal seams.
The Rougemont-1 well, spudded on May 14, reached a total target depth of 800 m. The company said this strengthens its view that these coals will be developed synergistically with the Reid’s Dome gas discoveries. The well is the first of two planned wells being drilled to evaluate the Bandanna coals in the eastern flank of the Rolleston-West permit, which was granted to State Gas by the Queensland government late last year.
