prosecuted gotti, prosecuted two governors in illinois, a man of impeccable integrity. yet the argument i think the trump camp or conservatives are trying to pivot to win the support of conservatives is that special counsel, by their very nature, are problematic and that you can t control special counsel that they re doing something wrong or that they re engaging in misconduct. and what i will say is that the conduct of president trump certainly seems to strengthen the argument for having not just special counsel but independent counsel to protect special counsel from interference by the political party. kelly, really quickly, this isn t a vacuum, obviously, and there are a lot of politics at stake and there is is a lot of real consequences at stake with what the president is facing with his own special counsel. kellyanne conway is denying the president was sending a message. politically speaking what are you hearing out there? i m hearing some folks saying that it is pretty clear th
recused attorney generals, it was bizarre. a lot of bad things happened on the other side, not on this side, but on the other side. you know what s interesting should look into it, because what they did is really fraudulent. and somebody should be looking into that. and by somebody, i m talking about you know who. well, presidents don t do that. they don t call in to fox news and start accusing people of crimes. you know, the political party, he won an election with some help from vladimir putin, but he won the election. he s president, and he s been doing nothing but spending his time talking about so-called crimes committed by the democrats, that s just to deflect attention from the fact that there was collaboration with russians. we don t know whether it was criminal or not, but a lot of people are lying about their contacts with the russians. this russia investigation is very serious, and all he s doing is attacking the fbi, bringing
investigation, pressing other people the say he wasn t under investigation. this pushback against this idea that he himself was part of the probe angered him so much that he kept taking actions that could be perceived as potential obstruction of justice. so maybe there s been a shift over time but that story stays very much within the framework and the time frame of the frustration that he demonstrated of this investigation. yeah. you heard congressman gowdy. he was addressing the possible interview with mueller. he said he has to decide if the political party outweighs the public one. does the president have a choice in meeting with mueller? probably not ultimately. he could delay it. he doesn t have to sit for a voluntary interview. then they could have litigation over whether he would have to comply. the white house thinks they might have a strategy to limit the scope of the questions he he
thirsting for on a national level. if he watched television it s as much as donald trump does, i would say please run, please run. i think it is good for the republican party to do so. a representative from utah, he would have the freedom to speak his conscience. and it is very clear from that tweet this is not a jump ball, whether he will be pro trump or anti-trump. he ll be looking to his conscience and the soul of the political party. we have seen in mitt romney one of the northeast republicans. some of the more moderate rockefeller republicans. the question is what happens when he gets there? will it be all wum in the first year or so? does he start [ laughter ] and i don t think democrats will get, will forget it any time soon. all right. another senate candidate people are talking about. chelsea manning. you remember chelsea manning who
that she made in the briefing was that they should consider firing steve bannon, and that divides the political party. and divides the trump base. we see a lot of comments on the breitbart comment board last night that sided with donald trump over steve bannon, and as much as steve bannon likes to fashion himself as the keeper of the trauma base, it is really all about the president. if bannon is declaring war on president trump, now you have the press secretary saying that breitbart should consider firing steve bannon, shocking coming from the white house podium. and concludes a split in the republican party base going forward. dana: when i saw somebody clo bannon saying that he is unshaken. and we played his comments earlier saying that the president is the radio show, he said that the president is a good man and did not disparage him and went anyway. but from your political view, do you think that bannon has done something he would never see
