use. but that s not the charge. this is improper use, this is a campaign expenditure, that s the theory of the prosecution. what you had was in this prosecution, a 527 was set up. then there was an llc set up with a similar name. part of what the prosecution is charging is that funds essentially went from the 527 and then to the llc, the llc, which has to file with the irs has different requirements than the 527, and that s how the money kind of went through the loop and then got to rielle hunter when they were trying to hide things. as always the question is, what did he know and when did he know it? what is the crime exactly? what they re alleging is, did he know that monies that were supposed to be used for the campaign were actually being used to keep, you know, andrew and rielle and andrew s wife
potentially by following the money from the 527 to the llc, it meant that the llc could spend money for what was called consulting services without really having to report it. and that s in addition to the $700,000 in the box of chocolates. so the question is, as always, what did john edwards know and when did he know it. you know, technically when you have a 527 or a pac, the campaign is not supposed to coordinate in any way, know anything about those operations. i think there are some questions regarding how that money flowed, whether or not john edwards knew about where that money was going, and there are also some questions about, again, there are some limits on how money can be used that can t be used for what s called personal use. and i would say trying to hide your mistress is about as personal as it gets. now, i don t know john edwards, you do.
