get the prosecutor off. he shouldn t be hearing the retrial but in fact he did. he was there for the sentencing today and he did in fact sentence bill cosby to a minimum of three years and maximum of 10 years in state prison. the d.a., kevin steele said cosby belonged in prison. we will hear from him at a news conference probably any minute now. gloria allred left the rain to go inside. we believe we will hear from her once the d.a. and his team are finished speaking. clearly, this was a big victory for them because they filed win a conviction in first trial. did win a conviction on the three counts of aggravated indecent assault in the second trial. the judge merged those three counts into one and sentenced bill cosby this afternoon to those three to ten years. you know, part of the reason why the judge said he gave that sentence was because of andrea constand s victim impact statement in which we said we would never know the full extent of bill cosby s double life as a sexual
counts resolved. you can, in fact, give them a partial verdict. that s okay to do so. what happens if they are to return maybe 17 of the 18 or 3 of 18 or 1 of the 18, the prosecution, if they have a conviction or an acquittal either way can say we will decide to retry on that particular ground, on that particular charge alone. if you have a conviction on 17 of 18 counts, you don t necessarily want to have that particular new trial. remember, this is obviously a two-week trial. you can do a partial verdict. this jury is well aware of that now. how do you see it? i actually have two observations about this. the first one is i m a little surprised judge ellis went right to an anti-deadlock instruction. the jury didn t announce they were deadlocked. usually that s when a judge opts to give an anti-deadlock instruction. they just asked a question. what happens if we can t reach unanimous verdicts on one of the 18 counts? i ve had this exact note in criminal trials. what i think we can
but, as for those texts following the argument with ryan before the crash, justine says, despite what many believe, she would never, ever have tried to commit suicide, knowing as she does that her grandmother, randy s mother, killed herself when her dad was just a boy. in fact, she says, the most likely explanation is she was just playing a game of sorts with ryan. he liked controlling everything having to do with like my life, and he d threatened suicide twice. that s what i think was happening, that i was playing his own card back at him. oh, i m going to kill myself then. yeah. i don t think that they were text messages that were to be taken seriously. well, if you look at them through justine s eyes they don t look like serious texts, but the jury didn t look at it through your eyes. no.
and at the end of the day, this was a traffic stop. unfortunately, the jury didn t see it that way. jury, that s the district attorney who prosecuted that case, the philando castile killing. there are five different degrees of homicide in minnesota. he chose the lowest degree which is manslaughter in the second degree which is simply culpable negligence and he could not get a conviction on that. when you saw that dashcam video, what did you see? yeah, i mean, obviously what you had is a person who never should have been a police officer who went from zero to 60 in about two seconds. he was obviously afraid of the person in the car and you can draw your own conclusions as to why. he panicked when he was told by philando castile, officer, i need to inform you that i have a gun. now, if he had malintent toward that officer, he wouldn t have calmly informed him, sir, that i have a gun. there wasn t even any logic to his panic.
a new politico morning poll finds that the house version is already unpopular with only 35% of voters approving of it. 49% disapprove. and 65% of voters say they want republicans to compromise with democrats and come to a bipartisan solution on health care reform. here s what president trump had to say about that health care plan tonight. i ve been watching. they re saying president trump has not produced health care. i ve been there for five months. i think and i hope can t guarantee anything. but i hope we re going to surprise you with a really good plan. you know, i ve been talking about a plan with heart. i said, add some money to it. a plan with heart. but obamacare is dead. can t guarantee anything, that little phrase that he squeezed in the middle of that speech was a phrase you never heard on the campaign trail from
