most point first hit, the eye of the hurricane directly over them, we wanted to go there because we haven t heard anything, the towns have been cut off for days and the only way we could do it, tried driving, was to get in a boat. when we got there after about two hours in the boat, the boat captain said the channel that usually gets you into the town the eastern most town on the island, the channel was filled in. we had this really eerie sensation as we were taking our boat over submerged cars. we couldn t see if anybody was inside the cars, but there were perhaps a dozen cars under water in the harbor. we got on the dock of the town, there was a dog there to greet us. not many other people. and the silence of this ghost town was just eerie. there was debris about six feet in places. you could smell there s something rotting underneath. the few residents we talked to, had all lost family members to the storm. i think about it because i had a nephew, three of his kids

this is on the south eastern tip of the island hit by the eye of the hurricane. one of the hardest hit areas. and first thing that strikes you, jake, this is a very green country. now everything you see is brown. the hurricane took everything on its path. then you start talking to people, and you realize they have been without water for days, without power as una ibl to communicate with people on other parts of the island and relatives in the united states. then you hear the story, i talked to a young man who says he s lucky to be alive. because there was a metal roof on the other side of the street from his house that was torn off by the hurricane. and it fell right on top of his house. as a matter of fact, he was in his bedroom when that happened. and he barely escaped alive. many stories of people helping each other. we saw a neighbor helping an elderly person with food. also neighbors coming together
