concerning. governor, i want to get your perspective on that. as one of donald trump s rivals, obviously during the campaign, now that we re a year in, what do you make of it? what is your perspective from the outside of what you think is happening in the white house? i think we ve seen a hardening of where the american people are. again, you have the far right, and you have the hard left who are reacting to donald trump, and neither side will listen to the other side. so the fight really the action i think is really in the middle. who are people that are willing to watch cnn and fox and try to decide what they really think and try to work through things, worried about our country. i d put my hope in the millennials and the gen xers. it may take a generational change to get the country united again. if you take the issue of daca, the d.r.e.a.m.ers, i don t understand why congress can t
welcome back. and stay with msnbc as we get ready for the state of the union. listen to it and then analyze every word that s spoken. hopefully admiral stavidis is heard at the white house. also listen for the president s offer on daca, the d.r.e.a.m.ers and immigration reform plus border security. i do not know how one democrat votes against that. a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million people, d.r.e.a.m.ers waiting for a dozen or more years for an offer to emerge from the republicans. this is the nixon to china moment. he made the offer, put it on the table in exchange for border security and changes to immigration law that ought to be easy to get to. so senator schumer and leader pelosi, sit down with your caucuses and say we have to take care of these 1.8 million people. they have real homes, real homes, real churches, real
they believe and are comfortable in the position the house passed the bill, a six-year extension for the children s health care program. that is where they stand. maybe they trim a week off the length. compare that to where democrats are. they made clear, daca, the d.r.e.a.m.ers, huge for them. they want agreement on that. they want actual policy proposals on the table before they are willing to agree to anything. the divide between where the parties are right now is a mess. the question is, what s going to bridge it. the answer, at least according to some people could be the president. nobody is sure what his role will be going forward. he had a meeting with senator schumer. schumer saying the president needs to take yes for an answer. a statement. before it was finalized, calling them obstructionist losers.
priority is saving these he d.r.e.a.m.ers? i want a bill of love? you heard him say that. he told america. he did tell them that and then he rejected the deal that was the closest thing to a bill of love two days later. yeah. but the bill that came to him two days later was filled with deal breakers. it checked out every box. it was a poison bill. it had lindsey graham and other republicans behind it. it checked every box. lindsey graham. you keep going to lindsey graham. he is not an indication that there is widespread support of anything, chris. he s a legitimate voice in opposition, a legitimate critic of the president and doesn t represent the majority in congress. when the president does the right thing, he s i with him. some call that leadership. mitch mcconnell, the leader of the republicans in the senate says he doesn t know what the president wants either. michael, you make the case.
a lot of subparts to the border security issue. you ve got daca, the d.r.e.a.m.ers, the bigger problem of congressman, yes or no, is that a problem that you don t know where the president stands on the wall? absolutely. this is a concern, i m sure, to you and your constituents. absolutely that s a concern that the white house might take one position today and one position tomorrow. i m sure in time we ll see a coalescing on shalls that will serve the united states of america. unfortunately we ve not had that consistency of message on a variety of public issues that i think behooves us insofar as the white house. united states congress has taken a variety of different positions on a lot of different issues, too. that s just the nature of people. congressman brooks, thank you so much. just congressman, on a personal note, i know you ve had quite a health care and we re wishing you and your family the very best.
