that. but to your point, because you ve already heard from the key players, nancy pelosi and dick durbin who, by the way, is the co-sponsor of that legislation that president trump was alluding to, the bridge act, the legislation that would provide that sort of three years of protection for those dreamers, it is called the bridge act by the way because it is meant to be a bridge to a more substantive, more significant piece of legislation to protect those dreamers. dick durbin already said, what the president is proposing is a nonstarter and so has nancy pelosi. both of them have said they are not doing any kind of negotiating until the government is reopened and the president agrees to sign some of the bills that the house democrats had been floating for about, what, the last week to be sure. so on all of those points, we re still stuck here. it is sort of the underlying dynamics of the debate have not shifted. and don t forget, president trump is still saying he wants the $5.7 bill
so-called bridge act and one important distinction, the bridge act does not grant a path to citizenship for those young people they were young when they came here, it merely provides a temporary work status for those folks instead of the path to citizenship that many democrats are going to insist upon. here s the biggest question, really, and it s hard to see president trump going along with this, but one never knows with this white house, is would he agree to have the congress consider these proposals if, in fact, the government could be opened first, if he signed those seven remaining spending bills, those appropriations bills that have some one quarter of the federal government closed now heading into the fifth week as we head into february, in that case, democrats, would go for it and dick durbin said as much in a recent statement. first president trump and mcconnell must open the government today. i cannot support the proposed offer as reported and i do not believe it can pass t
putting on the table? would it be work status, a path to citizenship? would it be something like the bridge act or the dream act? all of these questions now in the offing. some preliminary indications now. i talked to tim kaine here speaking on the floor of the senate, a brief session this morning. is he from the neighboring commonwealth of virginia. a lot of federal workers in his state. i had an opportunity to ask him about those reports about the president s proposal. and he left a little bit of an owing. look, reopen government and then that is a very there would be a lot to talk about in a proposal like that. but i really do believe that first reopen government. i hope he ll say i ll reopen government and let s sit down and talk. so one big catch here. democrats are not going to be talking about any kind of negotiation unless the government reopens first. that has to be the first step as far as democrats are concerned. he went on to say that 5.billion
senate. bye bye by the way in my true you don t get a pathway to citizenship. keep it simple. the bridge act. you will no citizenship. if democrats in the senate will work with you, give them a chance. a couple of weeks. if it doesn t work. do it yourself but give it one last shot. sean: first question will be one dollar nancy. than they will work with you. no doubt they are better about nancy and extremism. what is nancy going to say? recommendation i am dying to hear what they re going to say. get them in a room and ask them. see where they go u. sean: senator graham. good to see you. when we come back, we have a live report from honduras where a new migrant caravan is forming as we speak in central america. we will also get reaction. dan bongino, leslie marshall when we come back straight ahead.
from a snowy white house, thank you. joining us now from south carolina, republican senator lindsey graham who, after meeting with the president friday, urged him to use his executive powers to build the wall. senator, welcome back to fox news sunday. thank you. chris: this week you first tried to arrange a compromise, border wall funding in return for some protection for the dreamers. the white house said no. right. chris: now you are telling the president, urging the president to use his executive powers to fund the wall, and the president on friday said, not so fast. question: what is the president s strategy? well, i just talked to him about 30 minutes ago. he says let s make a deal. they did not turn down wall for the bridge act. that s not that storyline. i tried to see if we could open up the government for a limited period of time to negotiate a deal, and the president says let s make a deal, then open up the government.
