Isaiah Stevens had 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds to help Colorado State beat No. 8 Creighton 69-48 on Thursday at the Hall of Fame Classic for its first win over a top-10 team in nearly 40 years. The Rams snapped a 22-game losing streak against top-10 opponents dating to Jan. 19, 1984, when Colorado State defeated UTEP 63-51. Rashaan Mbemba scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting for Colorado State (6-0).
Baylor Scheierman knocked down a 3-pointer to open Creighton's game against Loyola Chicago on Wednesday, turned to the crowd inside T-Mobile Center and promptly blew it a kiss. Scheierman went on to score 24 points with 12 rebounds, Ryan Kalkbrenner hit four rare 3-pointers and finished with 29 points, and the eighth-ranked Bluejays cruised in the second half to an 88-65 victory in the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Classic. Steven Ashworth added 10 points for the Bluejays (5-0), who will try for their first in-season tournament title since the 2018 Cayman Islands Classic when they play Colorado State on Thursday.
Baylor Scheierman scored 23 points, Trey Alexander had 15 of his 20 in the first half, and eighth-ranked Creighton blew out Texas Southern 82-50 Saturday night. It took a while for the Bluejays to warm up against their opponent from the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Ryan Kalkbrenner had 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Creighton, and Alexander had eight assists and seven rebounds.
Creighton's offense was in a lull to end the first half against Iowa. The eighth-ranked Bluejays were unstoppable to start the second. Trey Alexander narrowly missed a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, and four other Creighton players scored in double figures.
